Rock the Rocks Family Festival & Concert
September 26 @ 9:00 am – 9:00 pm
One day. Two unforgettable ways to experience the Falls of the Ohio.

Rock the Rocks is back on September 26, and this year’s signature fundraiser is bigger than ever with two events in one incredible day!
FREE Family Festival | 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
Start your day at the Falls with a free, family-friendly festival celebrating the incredible natural, cultural, and historic resources of the Falls of the Ohio.
Admission to the daytime festival is FREE and tickets are not required.
Explore the Interpretive Center with free admission and docent-led tours, then get hands-on with fun activities and learning stations hosted by community partners and mission-aligned organizations.
Discover the world around you through activities focused on:
- Fossils and the ancient sea that once covered the Falls, including a dig pile experience to take home your own fossil
- Clean water and the health of the Ohio River
- Birding and the incredible birds that call our region home
- Reptile and insect encounters
- Regional history and culture
- Environmental conservation
- Art displays and activities led local artist by Al Gorman
- Outer Fossil Bed Hikes at 10 a.m. & Noon
Bring the whole family, explore something new, and discover why there is truly no place like the Falls of the Ohio.
Rock the Rocks Benefit Concert | 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Then, as the sun begins to set, the Falls transform into one of the most unique concert venues anywhere: the fossil beds themselves.
This year’s one-of-a-kind benefit concert will feature Mama Said String Band, bringing their distinctive blend of Bluegrass, Folk, and Americana to the Falls.
Based in Louisville, Mama Said String Band has been creating their own refreshing take on grassroots music since 2016, combining contemporary instrumentation, rich vocal harmonies, and honest songwriting. Their work has earned numerous regional accolades, including Album of the Year at the Lexington Music Awards for Carry the Water, Best Bluegrass Band at the Appalachian Arts & Entertainment Awards, and Bluegrass Artist of the Year at the Lexington Music Awards.
Their music brings big emotions, relatable stories, and plenty of energy to every performance—and there is no better backdrop for it than the ancient fossil beds of the Falls of the Ohio.
Concert tickets are $100 per person, with proceeds supporting the Falls of the Ohio Foundation and our work to:
- Provide meaningful field trip experiences for area students
- Create innovative educational programs
- Support environmental conservation and stewardship
- Preserve and interpret the extraordinary history and geology of the Falls
- Activate the Falls of the Ohio as a destination for our entire community
Come for the festival. Stay for the concert. Experience the Falls.
Whether you’re looking for a fun, free family day or an unforgettable evening under the stars, Rock the Rocks has something for you.
