SUMMARY:First Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:Kick off the New Year with a little exercise and exploration at the Falls of the Ohio State Park from 1:00 to 2:30 PM. Hike along the upper fossil beds and learn about Devonian Sea life\, plants and animals that live along the river’s edge. Bring binoculars to look for winter birds. The Interpretive Center is closed on January 1. Inclement weather will cancel the program due to the hazardous nature of a slippery\, uneven\, rocky surface. $2 pay-to-park fee applies\, but the program is free.  Observation Deck\, 1.5 hours\, free.

SUMMARY:Junior Paleontologist Program
DESCRIPTION:Our Junior Paleontologist program is similar to what some national parks offer but focuses on our area. This family program is geared for the same age as our Lewis & Clark Junior Ranger program – ages 6 – 13. New guided activity booklet is now in use. Join us as we have some fun learning about fossils. The $7 program fee is covered by a Falls of the Ohio Foundation grant and includes admission into the exhibit gallery.  Meets in the classroom.

DESCRIPTION:As an official stop on the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail\, we offer the National Park’s Lewis & Clark Junior Ranger program. It comes with a J. R. activity booklet\, and participants (geared for age 7 to 13) will get a Junior Ranger pin after filling the activity booklet out.  Cost $7 per participant covered by a grant by the Falls of the Ohio Foundation and includes admission into exhibit gallery. SUMMARY:Saving America's Largest Salamander - The Hellbender
DESCRIPTION:Indiana is home to America’s largest salamander\, called the Hellbender. It is only found in one Indiana river – the Blue River in Harrison County. Come and learn about this amazing aquatic animal\, what makes it special\, and what you can do to keep its habitat clean. This hands-on program will cover its adaptations\, how water pollution affects it\, and how amphibians have changed over geological time using a life-size model of Ichthyostega\, the oldest amphibian in the fossil record.  This is a  free program that will meet in the bird room.

Join one of our Naturalists at Heart\, a retired dentist\, as we explore the history and evolution of teeth.  This program is suitable for all ages\, but younger kids will have an activity they can play to win a fossil shark tooth.  This free program will meet in the Rotunda.
