An overview of what archaeologists do and how we learn about the past of people and their culture. What do archaeologists study in our area? What we have learned about our history and culture from archaeology? These questions will be answered relating to the study of prehistoric Native Americans, historic period American settlement and development, and archaeology’s role in our present-day culture. The main focus is the historic time period, the speaker’s specialty, and the various sites archeologist Jay Stottman has worked on over the last twenty years. This is a free program with interpretive center admission.
