Amber is tree sap that has been preserved in sediment. Sometimes the sap surrounded insects and plant remains; rarely reptiles and amphibians have been preserved inside. Fossilized sap that is less than a million years old is called Copal. It is not as hard as amber. Amber has not been found in Indiana or Kentucky.
